One of the largest NCAA Division III facilities of its kind in the nation, the 200,000-square-foot Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center (The W) offers expansive facilities for college health and wellness programs and intercollegiate athletics. At the same time, it provides Waverly with one of the finest community wellness centers in the Midwest.
Outdoor lighted facilities include Hertel Field baseball park, Wartburg soccer fields and the eight-court tennis area, which was renovated in 2009. Softball uses Lynes Field. Walston-Hoover Stadium opened in 2002, providing seating, concession, and restroom facilities for 4,000 spectators. The stadium’s lighted FieldTurf playing field and all-weather track can be used for a variety of events. A nearby throwing venue for track and field and two competitive soccer fields are part of the outdoor athletic complex. In 2005, Walston-Hoover Stadium hosted the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Recently upgraded in 2019 as part of the Transforming Tomorrow Campaign, the Wartburg soccer field received several enhancements. Temporary bleachers at the men’s and women’s soccer venue were replaced with permanent aluminum bleachers to seat up to 400 spectators with 100 of the spaces having seat backs. The exterior of the bleacher structure will allow for signage to celebrate the tradition of success within the men’s and women’s programs.
The ongoing Outdoor Athletic Facilities Project will also feature a fence around the playing field, lights installed on the multipurpose turf practice field, and a hard-surface parking area adjacent to the Knief Pavilion.
